He later composed a series of works called\u00a0<em>Rainforest<\/em>\u00a0to realize this dream.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>Rainforest<\/em>, found objects and carefully constructed materials are arranged throughout a space. Special devices called &#8220;tactile transducers&#8221; are attached to the objects, allowing performers to activate them with sounds of their own choice, creating what Tudor called &#8220;an electronic ecosystem.&#8221; Due to the specific resonance frequencies of each object, each one becomes a very unique loudspeaker.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will be preceded by a workshop by Phil Edelstein, one of David Tudor&#8217;s original collaborators and a founding member of his legendary collective, Composers inside Electronics. Join us for an evening of new works inspired by Tudor&#8217;s visionary approach to sound, space, and materiality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event is free!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Bobby Previte\u2019s<em> Bitches Brew,\u00a0<\/em>Sharp Theater October 8, 2025 7:00pm, Free and Open to the Public<\/h4>\n<p>One of the greatest works of the twentieth century, <em>Bitches Brew<\/em>, released in 1970, changed the entire landscape of not only Jazz, but Rock, Funk, Soul, and Pop as well. Hailed as a masterpiece upon release, it has become even more influential in the fullness of time. Previte and musicians begin at the point <em>Bitches Brew<\/em> left off, and using it as a springboard, point towards new directions.<\/p>\n<p>Bobby Previte &#8211; Trap Drums, Conductor Zach Layton &#8211; Guitar, Electronics Michael Kammers &#8211; Saxophone and Keyboards Adriana Tampasis &#8211; Flute, Bass Clarinet Justin Geyer &#8211; Keyboards, Moog David Lizmi &#8211; Electric Bass, Electronics<\/p>\n<h4>Gilad Cohen and Friends (featuring Alejandro Aviles and Ruben Rengel), Adler Theater October 16, 2025 11:20am-1pm, Free and Open to the Public<\/h4>\n<p>Gilad Cohen (bass, piano), Prof. Alejandro Aviles (saxophone, clarinet, flute) and guest musician Ruben Rengel (violin) will present a concert of originals and covers, written and improvised music influenced by klezmer, rock, jazz, Venezuelan music, and avant-garde.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alejandro Avil\u00e9s <\/strong>is a first generation Cuban-American who comes from a long lineage of musicians. In fact, Mr. Avil\u00e9s&#8217; family has been considered by the Guiness Book of World Records for having the longest, continuous musical group in the world. The Orquesta Hermanos Avil\u00e9s was started by his great-grandfather, Manuel Avil\u00e9s, in 1882 in Holguin, Cuba, and remarkably is still in existence today. Based in the Bronx, Alejandro Avil\u00e9s directs the Jazz ensembles at Ramapo College, Hofstra University and Hunter College while performing as a versatile musician in genres ranging from \u201cContemporary Jazz\u201d, \u201cBrazilian\u201d and &#8220;Afro-Cuban&#8221; music. Recently, Alejandro has recorded on numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy winning albums and is nominated this year for another award with Afro-Bop Alliance project.<\/p>\n<p>Venezuelan violinist <strong>Rub\u00e9n Rengel <\/strong>has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Venezuela Symphony, and New York String Orchestra. Winner of the 2018 Sphinx Competition, he has collaborated with conductors such as Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin, Xian Zhang, Elim Chan, and Theodore Kuchar. As a chamber musician, he has performed with Joseph Silverstein, Mitsuko Uchida, Pamela Frank, Jonathan Biss, Anthony McGill, Peter Wiley, David Shifrin, and Gilbert Kalish. Rub\u00e9n\u2019s chamber music appearances include performances at Caramoor, Moab Music Festival, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Bridgehampton Chamber Music, Music@Menlo, Ravinia, and Marlboro. As a versatile performer, Rub\u00e9n also explores Venezuelan and Latin American folk genres, and his arrangement of Beethoven\u2019s \u201cKreutzer\u201d Sonata has been featured on the Deutsche Grammophon label. Rub\u00e9n was recently in residence at Carnegie Hall as a member of Ensemble Connect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gilad Cohen<\/strong> is an active composer, performer, and theorist in various genres including concert music, rock, and music for theater.\u00a0Highlighted engagements include commissions by Barlow Endowment, Concert Artists Guild, Chamber Music America, and Composers Guild of New Jersey; awards including the Barlow Prize, the Israeli Prime Minister Award for Composers, and top prizes in international competitions in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle-East; and releases on Albany Records, Naxos\/Delos and Navona Records. In the 24-25 season, Gilad&#8217;s music was played in more than 60 concerts in nine countries. Gilad performs regularly with various ensembles around the US, playing piano, bass guitar and guitar.\u00a0An Associate Professor of Music at Ramapo College of New Jersey, Gilad holds a Ph.D. in composition from Princeton University.
