Potter Library<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(* see disclaimer below)<\/p>\n<h3>Associations<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.historians.org\/\"><strong>American Historical Association (AHA)<\/strong><\/a>*<br \/>\nThe American Historical Association (AHA) was founded in 1884 and incorporated by Congress in 1889 to serve the broad field of history. It encompasses every historical period and geographical area and serves professional historians in all areas of employment.<br \/>\nCheck out the AHA&#8217;s guide to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historians.org\/pubs\/Free\/careers\"><strong>Careers for History Majors<\/strong><\/a>*.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aasianst.org\/\"><strong>Association for Asian Studies (AAS)<\/strong><\/a>*<br \/>\nThe Association for Asian Studies seeks through publications, meetings, and seminars to facilitate contact and an exchange of information among scholars to increase their understanding of East, South, and Southeast Asia.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oah.org\/\"><strong>Organization of American Historians (OAH)<\/strong><\/a>*<br \/>\nThe Organization of American Historians is the largest learned society devoted to the study of American history.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.phialphatheta.org\/\"><strong>Phi Alpha Theta<\/strong><\/a>* (National History Honor Society)<br \/>\nWe are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(* see disclaimer below)<\/p>\n<h3>Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/memory.loc.gov\/\"><strong>American Memory Historical Collections from the Library of Congress<\/strong><\/a>*<br \/>\nAmerican Memory provides free and open access through the Internet to written and spoken words, sound recordings, still and moving images, prints, maps, and sheet music that document the American experience. It is a digital record of American history and creativity.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hnn.us\/\"><strong>History News Network (HNN)<\/strong><\/a>*<br \/>\nEven those who profess utter indifference to history are beholden to it. History is inescapable. Who we are and how we react to events depends, to a great extent, on our past. As Eugene O&#8217;Neill has a character in Long Day&#8217;s Journey into Night exclaim, at a critical juncture, &#8220;The past is the present, isn&#8217;t it? It&#8217;s the future, too.
