Some five million barrels of oil had leaked from the well before it was successfully capped on September 19, 2010.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Yet, the story of the Deepwater Horizon spill has almost disappeared from the news landscape. For all practical purposes, the spill might as well not have happened. What are likely to be the mid-term and long-term effects of the Gulf oil spill?
