This allows receipt of all-College messages, as well as remote access to electronic databases in the George T. Potter Library. Please advise the Benefits representative during your retirement interview if you wish to retain your email account.

Faculty or staff members who retired on or before December 31, 2023 and those with Emeritus status will retain their existing email accounts in the form username@ramapo.edu. Those who retire after December 31, 2023 will transition to the username@retiree.ramapo.edu account domain. POER/ITS will assist those who announce retirement on how to transition their accounts, files, etc. before their current accounts are deactivated. In the event that the retired faculty member or administrator is expected to be granted emeritus status, they may maintain their Ramapo email account without conversion to a retiree email address.

Retirees who need help reactivating email accounts should contact the HELP desk at (201) 684-7777 or helpdesk@ramapo.edu

Retiree Email & Transition Guide

Emeritus Policy

Retiring faculty (associate or full professor), retiring presidents, provost/vice president for academic affairs, and academic and non-academic administrators of the college at the rank of dean or higher who have served at the College for at least ten years may be honored with emeritus status. Emeritus status provides special rights and privileges in addition to those retiree benefits listed herein. These include payment of faculty overload rate for teaching adjunct courses, receipt of selected publications, listing in the College catalog, and full participation in College commencements and convocations. President recommendation and Board approval are required for emeritus designation.

Health Benefits

The right to continue health insurance upon retirement is one of the most important features of the State Health Benefits Program. The retiree will be able to continue coverage, provided it was in effect immediately preceding the effective date of retirement. Entitlements vary based on specific circumstances and are subject to change. For more information, please contact the Benefits Office several months in advance of planned retirement.

Life Insurance

Retirees are entitled to continue life insurance coverage if it was in place during employment. The amount of coverage depends on the retirement plan. Generally, life insurance coverage amounts to ½ of the retiree’s final salary for Alternate Benefit Plan (ABP) participants, and 3/16 of the final salary for Public Employer Retirement System (PERS), assuming a minimum of ten years of service, attainment of age 60, and in active pay status at retirement. It is important to review and update beneficiary information periodically. To do so, please contact the Benefits office or the Division of Pensions and Benefits.

Beneficiary Designation Fact Sheet (pdf)

Retiree Photo ID Card

The Office of Public Safety issues the photo retiree i.d. card by request, permitting access to various campus facilities and programs described herein. Public Safety is located in the C-Wing, Room C-102.

Parking

The faculty/staff lots are generally available to all when major events are held in the Berrie Center. A retiree is entitled to park in the faculty/staff lots including a limited number of spots in the Mackin and Bischoff lots, as long as the retiree has the parking decal issued when he or she was an active employee (the sticker does not expire and may be moved to a new car operated by the retiree as long as the new car information is provided to Public Safety). Alternatively, a permanent hang tag can be issued by Public Safety along with the retiree ID card at the time of retirement. This will allow the retiree without a parking decal to park in the designated lots and eliminate the need for a pass each time the retiree visits campus. Those retirees with handicapped placards may park in any handicapped designated spot on campus. In the event a retiree has mobility issues and cannot park in close proximity to where they are visiting, they may call Public Safety at ext. 7432 for a ride.

Peter P.
