Julio Sarmiento ’23 MSW ’24 was the recipient of private donor scholarships as a student at Ramapo, and wanted to pay it forward by creating a scholarship in honor of his mother, Malena Dafne Aquim. “My mother is the embodiment of hard work and sacrifice, and gave up most of her personal life to ensure that her children had every opportunity needed to succeed in life. She supported almost every decision in my life and helped me during my most crucial moments.”

Through these opportunities Julio is the first person in his family to graduate with a Master’s degree in social work.

This scholarship looks to honor someone very important in Julio鈥檚 life while also giving back to the communities that have contributed to his success.
