Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Karen Sweeney attended South Plainfield High School, and then earned a degree in Communication Arts from Ramapo College. Karen served as Vice President of Operations for Barnes & Noble College where she was an exceptional executive and a compassionate and inspiring leader. 鈥淗er contributions to the success of her company, her people and the colleges and universities we serve were significant and meaningful,鈥� said Lisa Malat, President of Barnes & Noble College.

Karen enjoyed traveling, especially in Europe, and spent much time on Cape Cod, where her family lives. She was an unrelenting champion for all aspiring leaders, particularly young women who gravitated to Karen鈥檚 positive energy and thoughtful and committed mentoring.

This award is intended for aspiring women leaders enrolled in the Anisfield School of Business.
