How to Apply – Current Ramapo Freshmen

The application window for first year Ramapo students to join the Honors Program in the Spring is December 1 to January 8.

Student must have a 3.50 GPA from the Fall semester. For admission, excellent performance in the first semester and a high school GPA in a challenging high school curriculum are necessary, but not sufficient, criteria. SAT and ACT scores are optional. Grade point average and entrance examination score (if submitted) are only two measures assessing the intellectual, creative, and moral engagement of applicants. Qualitative measures, including essays and letters of recommendation, will be used to assess the intellectual independence or engaged learning values of the applicant. It is possible that a student could have high grades or test scores but lack in the intrinsic or 鈥榚ngaged learning鈥� values necessary to flourish in the College Honors Program. It is also possible that a student could have less than excellent test scores but demonstrate intellectual, creative and moral engagement.

Application Materials

Students must email PDFs of the admission essay, one faculty recommendation, and a sample of work to eaugis@ramapo.edu聽with the headline 鈥淗onors Application.鈥�

Admission Essay (In 800 words or less):聽Most people belong to many different communities; groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interests, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong and describe that community and your place within it.
One Faculty Recommendation: Please ask a faculty member from Ramapo College to submit one letter of recommendation to Director, Erin Augis (eaugis@ramapo.edu).聽Letters should demonstrate personal knowledge of your intellectual independence and capacity for engaged learning.
Example of Work: Please submit a previously completed essay or project from your first semester at Ramapo College that you consider demonstrates the qualities required for admission to the College Honors Program. Include a description of the assignment and class it was created for. The essay or project must be attached to your email as a regular PDF attachment, not as an embedded link.
